Upcoming Opportunities

It’s really hard to believe we are at the end of the first quarter! Time seems to fly by as our days are filled with to-do lists, projects, and deadlines. Let’s remember to take care of ourselves as the hussle and bustle of the holiday season approaches.

I want to remind you of some upcoming opportunities at GLHS. We launched our Community University workshops at the beginning of the month and following are two workshops that should be exciting learning experiences:

October 29, 2012- Exploring the Night  through a Telescope: This workshop will take place from 8:00pm-9:30pm in the Clark Hall parking lot. Come view the moon, Jupiter, and the Pleaides. This workshop is led by GLHS Science teacher, Fred Donelson, and students from the Space Tech class. RSVP here by 3:00pm Monday, October 26th.

November 5, 2012- The Ins and Outs of Google Docs: Come learn how to create collaborative documents, spreadsheets, surveys and presentations with this free web-based tool. This workshop is led by GLHS Librarian, Ann Gleek, in Clark Hall 221. RSVP here by Friday, November 2nd.

Report cards will be distributed on Monday, November 5th. This is a great opportunity for you to talk with your child about their effort, achievement, and study habits to make sure he/she is on the right track. If he/she need assistance in any way, we now have a Social Studies Lab and Science Lab to go with our Math Lab and Writing Lab, which are now located in our newly created PASS Room. PASS stands for Positive Academic Support Solutions. There is a content specific teacher available each period to assist with homework, papers, or answer questions. If your child needs help, please encourage him/her to ask his/her teacher about the PASS Room.

There will be an Early Dismissal on Thursday, November 8th to allow us to participate in professional learning. The school day will end at 1:30pm. As a staff, we will discuss the new Ohio Teacher Evaluation System.
My monthly “Coffee with Mr. Carter” will take place on Monday, November 12th from 6:45am-7:25am in Clark Hall 225. So far, we’ve had informal conversations about our building goals, college readiness, communication strategies, and student learning. If there is a topic you would like to discuss at one of the coffees, please feel free to share it in the comment section.
We will have a three day break to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday with family and friends Wednesday, November 21 through Monday, November 26th. Teachers will have a full day professional development in-service on Monday, November 26th.

As the month of November approaches, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you how thankful I am for being able to serve as the principal of GLHS. I thoroughly enjoy the many opportunities to interact with you, our students, and the staff in significant ways. Until next time…
Be Great,
